Your Big 3
Sun, Moon and Rising — the cosmic trio that defines you. Free, in seconds.
What is the Big 3?
The Big 3 are the three key positions in a natal chart: the Sun sign, the Moon sign and the Rising sign (Ascendant). The Sun sign is the one everyone knows from horoscopes — but it is only a third of the picture. The Moon and the Ascendant are calculated from your exact date, time and place of birth, and they often explain why two people with the same Sun sign can be so different.
The calculator above uses the Swiss Ephemeris — real astronomical calculations, not approximate tables. You get the same positions a professional astrologer would work with.
Sun sign — who you are at your core
The Sun sign shows your core identity: your will, your ambitions and the way you want to be seen. It is set by the Sun’s position on the day you were born and changes roughly once a month — which is why it is the only one of the three you usually know without a calculator.
Moon sign — your emotional world
The Moon sign describes your emotional world: how you react instinctively, what you need to feel secure, and how you experience closeness. The Moon changes sign every 2–3 days, so the date alone is not always enough — on borderline days the exact time decides.
Rising sign — how others see you
The Ascendant is the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth. It shapes the first impression you make and your approach to anything new. It changes about every two hours — which is why the calculator needs an exact time. If you don’t know yours, check your birth certificate or ask your parents.
The Big 3 is where most people start. The next step is the free natal chart with every planet and house, and if you want to see how two charts fit together in love — synastry compares them position by position.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Big 3 in astrology?
The Big 3 are the three most important positions in a natal chart: your Sun sign (your core self), your Moon sign (your emotional world) and your Rising sign, or Ascendant (how others perceive you). Together they give a far more complete portrait than the Sun sign alone.
Why do I need my exact birth time?
The Ascendant changes roughly every two hours as the Earth rotates. An hour of difference can produce a different Rising sign, and on borderline days a different Moon sign too. Your Sun sign is almost always calculated correctly from the date alone.
Is the Big 3 calculator free?
Yes — completely free, no registration needed. The calculation uses the Swiss Ephemeris, the same astronomical data professional astrologers rely on.
What is the difference between the Big 3 and a natal chart?
The Big 3 is the short version — three positions out of dozens in a full natal chart. The natal chart adds Mercury, Venus, Mars and the remaining planets, the 12 houses and the aspects between them. The full natal chart at Vrachka.eu is free as well.
Can the Rising sign matter more than the Sun sign?
In everyday life — often yes. The Ascendant shapes first impressions and spontaneous reactions, so people around you may "see" you as your Rising sign rather than your Sun sign. That is why many astrologers suggest reading the daily horoscope for your Rising sign too.
