How synastry is read

We compare both charts and find which planets touch: every point of one chart against every point of the other. The points and the angles that count:

  • The closer the angle is to the exact one, the stronger the aspect. The strong lines of the wheel are the more solid ones.
  • Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Chiron against the same points of the other chart are not counted. They move slowly, and for people of about the same age they stand almost in one place.
  • The Ascendant and the houses are not part of the aspects.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is synastry?

Synastry is a technique in astrology that compares two natal charts to reveal the dynamics of the relationship between two people. Through analysis of the aspects between the planets in both charts, synastry reveals the strengths and weaknesses of the relationship, areas of harmony and challenges.

What exactly do I get in the report?

The aspects between both charts: which planets touch and what each one sets off; a score across four dimensions (love, communication, passion, longevity) with the reasoning behind it; the places where you diverge; and concrete advice on what to do about them.

Do I need the exact time of birth?

The exact time helps: it pins the Moon and the houses. If you do not know it, tick the box. The chart is then calculated for 12:00 noon, local time at the place of birth, with all the houses and the Ascendant. The Moon moves about half a degree an hour and the orb of a conjunction is 8°, so the aspects with the Moon follow the time the chart is calculated for.

Can I do synastry with a friend or a colleague?

Yes. The reading is ordered for a love, friendship or business relationship. The calculation is the same, and three of the sections differ for each kind: “Love and closeness” becomes “Emotional closeness” for friends and “Values and working style” for colleagues. From the other person you only need the name, the date, the place and, if possible, the time of birth.

Do I need ready-made natal charts?

Not at all. Enter the data in the form and the charts are calculated for you. For you that is the date, time and place of birth; for the other person, the name, date and place are enough, and the time if they know it. If you already created a chart with us, pick it from the list.

Does synastry predict whether the relationship will last?

Synastry describes how the two of you influence each other and where there is friction, without predicting an end or a future. What you do with it is up to the two of you.
