Online Coffee Cup Reading

Coffee cup reading is a folk way of reading the figures that Turkish coffee grounds leave on the cup and the saucer. By tradition the cup is turned over onto the saucer and left to cool. Here you upload up to 3 photos, choose a topic, and the reading is written automatically from the shapes in them.

The custom

The art of tasseography

Coffee cup reading, also called tasseography, is the custom of reading the shapes that the grounds of Turkish coffee leave in a cup. The coffee is brewed in a cezve and drunk until only the grounds are left. The cup is turned upside down onto its saucer to cool, then lifted, and the figures the grounds left behind are read.

Reading online follows the same order, and at the end you photograph the cup.

The limits

Is coffee reading real?

Coffee reading is a folk custom and does not predict the future. The figures in the grounds are a reason to think and talk about what is on your mind.

The reading here follows the custom: it says what the shapes in the photos mean according to the tradition. It is not medical, financial or legal advice. For health and money, ask a doctor or a financial adviser.

Frequently asked questions

How does online coffee reading work?

You upload up to 3 photos of your cup, choose a topic (general, love, career, health or finance) and, if you like, write a question. The automatic reading names the figures in the photos, says what they mean for the topic and ends with a piece of advice.

Do I need to drink coffee first?

Yes. The reading is of your own cup: brew Turkish coffee, drink it, turn the cup over onto the saucer and photograph it once it has cooled.

Can I read coffee grounds from a cezve?

Yes. Photograph the grounds left at the bottom of the cezve after pouring: the figures are read the same way as in a cup. Some turn the cezve over a saucer for a minute or two first, so the grounds run down its walls. Daylight shows the figures better than a flash, which makes the metal shine.

Is coffee cup reading free?

Yes. Without an account you get up to 3 readings a day, and a free account gives you more.

Are the photos of my cup kept?

No. The photos are used only while the reading is written and are not saved.
