Lunar Hair Cutting Calendar
Find out which lunar day it is today and whether the moon favors a haircut — calculated live from the new moon.
Today is the 14th lunar day. The moon is waxing moon: Favorable for a haircut.
During the waxing moon, folk tradition links a haircut to faster, thicker regrowth — a good window if you want your hair to grow quickly.
When to Cut Your Hair by the Moon
Waxing Moon → growth
From the new moon to the full moon. Tradition favors a haircut here for faster, thicker, fuller regrowth — ideal if you are growing your hair out.
Waning Moon → strength
From the full moon to the new moon. Tradition links this to slower regrowth — better for keeping a shape longer or favoring strong, healthy ends over speed.
What Is "Cutting Hair by the Lunar Calendar"?
Cutting hair by the lunar calendar is an old folk practice that times a haircut to the phase of the moon and the lunar day. The idea: the moon's pull, which moves the tides, is believed to also influence growth — so a haircut during the waxing moon should encourage faster regrowth, and during the waning moon, slower. Vrachka calculates today's lunar day automatically from the real new-moon date, so you do not need a printed calendar.
How the lunar day is counted
The 1st lunar day starts at the new moon. Each following day adds one, up to about the 29th–30th lunar day, when the next new moon resets the count. Because the new moon does not fall at midnight, the lunar day can change at any hour — which is why a live calculation is more accurate than a generic monthly chart.

Frequently asked questions
What is a lunar day?
A lunar day is the day counted from the new moon (the 1st lunar day) through the lunar cycle. A cycle has about 29–30 lunar days. Each one is traditionally associated with different energy for activities like cutting hair.
Which lunar day is best for a haircut?
In folk tradition, the waxing moon (from the new moon to the full moon) is considered favorable for a haircut when you want faster, thicker growth. The waning moon is preferred for slower regrowth and keeping a shape longer.
How is today's lunar day calculated?
We count the full days since the last new moon. At Vrachka the new moon date is calculated astronomically (astronomy-engine, Swiss Ephemeris precision), so the lunar day shown is correct for today and updates automatically.
Is cutting hair by the moon scientifically proven?
No. Cutting hair by the lunar calendar is a folk tradition and belief, not a scientifically proven method. We offer it as cultural, entertainment-oriented guidance — your hairdresser and hair health come first.
