What is a Birth Chart?
A birth chart, also known as an astrological chart or natal chart, is a snapshot of the sky at the exact moment and place of your birth. It shows the positions of the Sun, the Moon and all the planets, the ascendant (rising sign) and the 12 astrological houses. In the astrological tradition it is read for your personality, your natural talents and the themes of your life.
The signs show how a body acts, the houses in which area of life, and the aspects, the angles between the bodies, how they connect or get in each other’s way. That is why the same date gives a different chart at another hour and in another place.

Accuracy
Why the Ascendant and the Moon come out exact
The Ascendant moves about a degree every four minutes, and the Moon about half a degree an hour. These two points depend most on the time and the place. That is why they are calculated for the exact place of birth, with the time zone and the summer time of that date.
If you do not know the time, tick “I don’t know the time of birth”: the chart is calculated for 12:00 noon, local time at the place of birth, with all the houses and the Ascendant. The calculator also says whether the Moon changed sign that day.

The exact time of birth is critical for calculating the ascendant (rising sign) and the positions of the 12 astrological houses. These elements change every 2 hours, so even a small error can significantly change the interpretation.

The ascendant (rising sign) is the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth. It is calculated from the exact time and place; there is a separate Ascendant Calculator.
