How does the magic ball work?
The ball holds twenty answers and shows you one. The point is not the randomness but what you feel when you read it. If you are relieved, you already knew. If it stings, you knew that too.
Why the answers are not all yes
The original 1950 ball carries ten affirmative, five non-committal and five negative answers. That ratio is why the toy has lasted seventy years: a ball that only says yes stops meaning anything by the third question.
How to ask
- 1.Frame a question with a clear yes or no answer. Should I text him works; what should I do with my life does not.
- 2.Hold the question in your head while you shake.
- 3.Read the answer and notice your first reaction. It says more than the text.
- 4.One question, one answer. If you ask five times about the same thing, you have already decided.
