The magic ball is a toy for divination with questions that can be answered yes or no: after a shake, one of 20 answers floats up in its window. 10 of them are affirmative, 5 non-committal and 5 negative, as in the original toy. The answer comes up at random.

10 of 20 are affirmative, and the other 10 split evenly into non-committal and negative. A ball that only says yes stops meaning anything by the third question.

- Frame a question with a clear yes or no answer. “Should I text him” works; “what should I do with my life” does not.
- Hold the question in your head while you shake.
- Read the answer and notice your first reaction. It says more than the text.
- One question, one answer. If you ask five times about the same thing, you have already decided.
