Life Path Number: calculator by birth date

The life path number is the sum of the digits of the date of birth, reduced to one number from 1 to 9 or to the master numbers 11, 22 and 33. Example: for 15 March 1990 the day gives 6, the month 3, the year 1, and the sum 10 reduces to 1. In Pythagorean numerology it is a person’s main number.

Example 15.03.1990 6 + 3 + 1 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1

The method

How the life path number is calculated

  1. The day, the month and the year separately

    The digits of each of the three are added until one digit is left; 11, 22 and 33 stop there. For 15.03.1990: the day 1 + 5 = 6, the month 3, the year 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19 → 1 + 9 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1.

  2. The sum of the three

    The three numbers are added and the sum is reduced the same way: 6 + 3 + 1 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1. The life path number is 1.

  3. The master numbers

    A sum of 11, 22 or 33 stays as it is. For 04.01.1950 the day, the month and the year give 4 + 1 + 6 = 11: the master number 11.

Some calculators add all the digits of the date at once. Between 1950 and 2010 the two ways give a different number on 2,994 of 22,280 dates. For 04.01.1950 the total sum is 0 + 4 + 0 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 5 + 0 = 20 → 2 + 0 = 2, while by the rule here the number is 11. The calculator reduces the day, the month and the year separately.

The meanings

The numbers from 1 to 9 and the master numbers 11, 22 and 33

Each number has its own character in the Pythagorean tradition. 11, 22 and 33 are master numbers: they carry the traits of 2, 4 and 6 in a stronger form. Each number leads to its page in the library.

  • 1

    The Leader

In the numerological tradition, 1 is the number of beginnings. It brings will and the need to choose your own direction. Its test is patience with other people and with other opinions.

  • 2

    The Diplomat

The number 2 stands for the couple and for cooperation. The tradition links it with patience and with the skill of listening to the other person. Its weak spot is decisions: it finds it hard to say what it wants and often puts things off.

  • 3

    The Creator

Three is read as the number of creativity. It is linked with sociability, imagination and a sense of humour. Its risk is scattering: many things started and few finished.

  • 4

    The Builder

In the tradition, 4 is the number of foundations. It is linked with discipline and with work whose result shows over time. Change is the hardest thing for it: the new often looks like a threat.

  • 5

    The Free Spirit

Five is the number of change. It brings curiosity and a need for variety. Constancy comes hard to it: routine and long commitments weigh on it.

  • 6

    The Nurturer

The number 6 is linked with home and responsibility. The tradition sees in it care for loved ones and a feel for beauty and comfort. The hard part is boundaries: it easily takes on other people’s duties too.

  • 7

    The Seeker

Seven is the number of seeking. It is linked with an analytical mind and a need for quiet to reflect. Closeness is its test: it easily withdraws into itself.

  • 8

    The Powerhouse

Eight is read as the number of power and results. The tradition links it with ambition and with the skill of managing people and money. The balance between work and loved ones is its hard task.

  • 9

    The Humanitarian

Nine is the last digit of the cycle, and the tradition links it with completion. It brings compassion and the wish to be of use to more people. It finds it hard to let go of what has ended.

  • 11

    The Spiritual Messenger

11 is the first master number. It carries the traits of 2 (1 + 1 = 2) in a stronger form: intuition, sensitivity and inspiration. The price is nervous tension when ideas do not turn into deeds.

  • 22

    The Master Builder

22 is the second master number and carries the traits of 4 (2 + 2 = 4) on a larger scale. It is linked with the skill of turning big ideas into deeds. The pressure a person puts on themselves is its difficulty.

  • 33

    The Master Teacher

33 is the third master number and carries the traits of 6 (3 + 3 = 6) in a wider circle. The tradition links it with teaching and with care for many people. It has to guard its strength so as not to wear itself out.
