Karma Number: karmic debt calculator by name

The karmic numbers in numerology are 13, 14, 16 and 19: intermediate sums that appear before the sum of the letters of a name is reduced to one digit. The calculator works out three numbers from the full birth name (expression, heart’s desire and personality) and shows whether any of them passes through a karmic number.

The method

How the numbers of the name are calculated

Every letter has a value from 1 to 9: the alphabet is laid out in nine columns in order, and the value is the number of the column. In Latin letters A is 1, B is 2 and so on up to I, which is 9; J starts again at 1.

  1. The three numbers

The Expression number is the sum of all the letters, the Heart’s Desire number of the vowels (A, E, I, O, U and Y; in Cyrillic А, Е, И, О, У, Ъ, Ю и Я), the Personality number of the consonants.

  2. Each part of the name separately

The sum of each part (first name, middle name, surname) is reduced to one digit; 11, 22 and 33 stay. Then the parts are added and the sum is reduced again.

  3. The karmic number

If the sum of a part or the total sum is 13, 14, 16 or 19, it is a karmic number.

An example for a made-up name, Maria Ivanova: Maria 4 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 1 = 24 → 2 + 4 = 6; Ivanova 9 + 4 + 1 + 5 + 6 + 4 + 1 = 30 → 3 + 0 = 3; expression 6 + 3 = 9. The vowels of the parts together give 11 + 8 = 19: a karmic number.

Karmic debt

The karmic numbers 13, 14, 16 and 19

In the numerological tradition the karmic numbers are also called karmic debt. According to the belief, they are themes a person carries from past lives.

13: work and discipline
The tradition links 13 with work without shortcuts. The theme is persistence: small tasks, finished to the end.
14: moderation and limits
In the tradition 14 is the number of moderation. The theme is excess in habits and pleasures, and the limits a person sets by their own choice.
16: pride and change
16 is linked with pride and with sudden changes that break down the old so that something new can be built. The theme is humility and resilience after a loss.
19: power and responsibility
The tradition links 19 with power and independence. The theme is how a person uses their strength and whether they can accept help.
