Lyubomir Lulchev
Lyubomir Lulchev belongs to two overlapping histories: the royal court and Bulgaria’s spiritual movements. A former officer associated with Peter Deunov and Tsar Boris III, he was also a novelist. His writing offers a view beyond his reputation as the tsar’s clairvoyant.

An officer in Boris III’s circle
In a Radio Plovdiv interview on 7 June 2017, biographer Hristo Nanev traces Lulchev’s path from military service to the court, including his interest in astrology and Deunov’s teaching. Lulchev was sentenced by the People’s Court and executed in 1945.
A novel returns after 82 years
New People was published in 1937 and reissued in 2019. BNR brought together its publishers and Lulchev’s relative Daniel Kapsazov to discuss the novel and the family’s long silence about him. The recording offers a route into his writing as well as his biography.
Where the prediction stories come from
When presenting Prophet of the Crown, Nanev discusses premonitions concerning Boris III and the war. These are the biographer’s accounts. The brief radio article does not reproduce a document recording Lulchev’s words before the event. Assessing an individual prediction requires that dated record and its context.
