Moon square Mars
Moon square Mars in a natal chart: response and action. A worked angle, orb and a reading with context.
In this lesson
Response and action
The lunar theme of needs meets the Martian theme of action and assertion. Name the sequence: what you notice, what you want and what you actually do.
A square can frame tension between a need and the way it is expressed. “I need a quiet evening” is more precise than accusing another person of always getting in the way.
Measure the aspect before interpreting it
| Moon | 10° zodiacal longitude |
|---|---|
| Mars | 102° |
| Shorter distance | 92° |
| Exact aspect | 90° |
| Deviation | 2° |
Use the shorter distance around the circle. The difference from the reference angle is the orb in this example. Whether that orb is accepted depends on the method; it is not a probability of an event.
Choose an exact aspect, then move point B to see the deviation.
This measures the angle only. Whether an orb is accepted depends on the method, planets and context.
What the angle leaves out
The aspect does not establish aggression. Assess conduct through actions, including how a person responds to disagreement.
Record the two signs and houses alongside the degrees. Check the birth time before relying on houses. In a natal chart both positions belong to one birth; synastry compares two people, while a transit compares positions at different times.
