Elements and modalities of the signs
Compare the four elements and three modalities of the zodiac signs. Explore the twelve combinations and apply them to a placement in a natal chart.

Compare one characteristic at a time
Aries and Cancer are cardinal but belong to different elements. Taurus and Virgo are earth signs with different modalities. This structure is more useful for learning than lists of good and bad traits.
Do not count without a rule
When comparing a predominant element, state which bodies are included and whether they receive equal weight. Counting ten bodies and counting only personal factors are different procedures. The result is not a psychological test.
Apply the vocabulary to one placement
For Mercury in Virgo, write “earth, mutable, Mercury”. Then add the house and a particular conversation or task. This connects symbolic language with context instead of extending it across a whole personality.
