What the Lives preserve
The Bulgarian Patriarchate presents several traditions, including Paisii of Hilendar’s account. They describe pastoral work, solitude and miracles. Differences between the versions leave parts of his chronology uncertain.
The 1774 transfer
The Romanian Patriarchate links the transfer to the Russo-Turkish War of 1768 to 1774. The relics initially travel towards Russia but remain in Bucharest following petitions. The account dates their placement in the metropolitan cathedral to 13 July 1774.
