Natal chart: an order for interpretation
Follow an order for reading a natal chart: start with a planet, then add its sign, house and aspects. Worked notes show how the placements connect.

Editorial illustration.
In this lesson
Begin with a descriptive record
Write one placement without evaluation: “Sun at 10° Aries in house ten”. Record the data and system used to calculate it. This provides a reference when interpretations disagree.
Constructed example. It does not belong to a real person. The houses start at the Ascendant degree; their boundaries do not match the sign boundaries.
- Sun
- 10° Aries · house 10
- Mercury
- 16° Aries · house 11
- Moon
- 12° Cancer · house 1
These three sample placements are listed beside the geometry; the wheel itself shows the sign and house divisions.
Add context one step at a time
The planet supplies a theme, sign a symbolic style, house an area and aspect a relationship. Adding everything at once obscures which part supports a reading. State the provisional assumptions as well.
Check the account with the person
Ask a specific question and accept that a description may not be recognised. Do not make disagreement proof that a planet is “acting unconsciously”. Keep the reading open to correction.
