Public role and responsibility

The tenth house is read through public standing, professional roles and visible responsibility. This is broader than a title or prestige; it includes how a contribution is recognised by others.

Read the cusp and its ruler

In quadrant systems the MC is the tenth cusp. In equal houses, house ten starts 90° before the Ascendant along the zodiac and need not begin at the MC. Do not substitute one indicator for the other.

The starting cusp belongs to this house; the next cusp belongs to the following house. Numbering continues across 360° back to 0°. A different house system may assign the same planetary position to a different house.

Keep the neighbouring ideas separate

The sixth concerns daily work, the tenth public role and the second personal resources. They should not be combined into a promise of a particular profession and income.

A question for your notes

Describe one responsibility through a result, the person who accepts it and a deadline. Compare those specifics with the general role title.

Compare equal houses, whole signs and Placidus.

Questions about this lesson

Does an empty house mean this area is missing?

No. A house remains part of the chart even without a planet in it. Astrologers also examine its cusp and ruler.
