Shared resources and interdependence
The eighth house is read through shared funds, obligations and resources outside sole control. Historical terminology also includes death; this does not allow a chart to predict someone’s death.
Read the cusp and its ruler
Start with the cusp and its ruler. In this example Capricorn leads to Saturn. Do not make Pluto the compulsory ruler of every eighth house; that confuses an analogy with Scorpio and the actual chart.

The starting cusp belongs to this house; the next cusp belongs to the following house. Numbering continues across 360° back to 0°. A different house system may assign the same planetary position to a different house.

Keep the neighbouring ideas separate
The second house concerns personal resources; the eighth raises shared access and mutual obligations. A reading does not determine an inheritance’s value or a contract’s outcome.
