Position, dates and correspondences
| Longitude sector | 30°–60° |
|---|---|
| Approximate solar dates | approximately 20 April – 20 May |
| Element | Earth |
| Modality | Fixed |
| Rulership | Venus |
Dates are approximate. Near a boundary, calculate the Sun’s longitude for the year, birth time and time zone. The tropical signs are equal sectors beginning at the March equinox, not the unequal boundaries of astronomical constellations.
The twelve equal sectors of the tropical zodiac. This is not a map of constellation boundaries.
How the symbolism is used
Taurus is the second sector of the tropical zodiac. Fixed earth is associated with maintenance, material stability and tangible resources. Consistency is a theme to examine, not a trait expressed identically by everyone with this sign.
Fixed does not mean incapable of change. Ask what is being preserved and why. Venus as ruler does not make every Taurus placement a matter of luxury or money.
A placement in a constructed chart
Venus at 5° Taurus has a longitude of 35°. With a 15° Gemini Ascendant and equal houses, it is in house eleven. A sample question concerns choosing a pleasant, sustainable setting for friendships.
These numbers explain a reading method; they are not a horoscope for a real person or a current forecast.

Questions about this lesson
Does the sign determine compatibility?
A Sun sign alone does not establish the quality or future of a relationship. Even astrological synastry compares more than two Sun signs.
