Conjunction in astrology: the 0° aspect

What a conjunction means

A conjunction has an exact angle of 0° between two zodiacal longitudes. An astrological reading considers the themes of the two bodies together.

A zero angle does not mean a physical collision. The bodies can be at very different distances from Earth; this comparison concerns their positions along the zodiac.

Calculate the separation and orb

Ordinary subtraction gives 356°, but that is the long way around the circle. The shorter route crosses 0° Aries and measures 360° − 356° = 4°. The deviation from an exact conjunction is 4°.

This is a constructed teaching example. Whether 4° is accepted depends on the chosen orb. State that rule instead of calling every close position exact.

Name both themes

For the Sun and Moon, consider how a conscious aim fits a familiar response. You may want to take on a task while first needing to understand how it would change your daily routine.

Write down the aim and the necessary condition separately. Then formulate an arrangement that includes both. This is a reading exercise, not a description of everyone with the aspect.

One sign does not necessarily mean a conjunction

Bodies at 1° and 29° Aries share a sign but are 28° apart. Conversely, close positions on opposite sides of a sign boundary can fall within a chosen conjunction orb.

Schools differ in how they treat out-of-sign aspects. State whether you are working by degrees and how you handle the boundary case.
