Opposition in astrology: the 180° aspect

What an opposition means
An opposition has an exact angle of 180°: two positions on opposite sides of the zodiacal circle. Symbolic readings often discuss polarity and different priorities.
This does not require rejecting one of the factors. Ask how each theme is being expressed.

Libra begins at 180° zodiacal longitude. The Moon at 8° Libra is at 188°. Its distance from the Sun at 10° Aries is 178°.
The deviation from 180° is 2°. A raw difference of 182° also gives a shorter distance of 178°, which is why this measure ends at 180° rather than 360°.
Explore the 180° angle
Move point B from 178° to 180°. Notice the points at opposite ends of a diameter. Then select square and compare the figure at 90°.
Choose an exact aspect, then move point B to see the deviation.
This measures the angle only. Whether an orb is accepted depends on the method, planets and context.
Let both priorities be heard
For this constructed example, consider wanting to decide independently while also needing to coordinate a shared routine. Write down your proposal, then ask what matters to the other person.
Do not assign a right and wrong side by sign. Seek a specific agreement: which decision is personal, which is joint and when will it be made?
An opposition is not a relationship verdict
Synastry compares factors from two charts. One opposition does not establish incompatibility or a future separation. In a natal chart, both factors belong to the same set of birth data.
A square is 90° and an opposition is 180°. The word “tension” is not enough to identify which aspect you are looking at.

An exact opposition is 180°, the largest separation when measured by the shorter path around a circle.
Can an opposition be at 182°?
The raw difference can be 182°, but the shorter distance is 178°. Either way, the deviation from 180° is 2°.
Does an opposition in synastry mean incompatibility?
No. An individual aspect does not determine a relationship’s quality or future.
